Resources for Day for Descendants

The number and categories of resources documenting environmental challenges is growing. This and other posts will introduce these resources for Day for Descendants, to assist those interested in learning and entering into a dialogue about future people and places, and “giving them a better deal.”

These resources are excellent and it is with these in mind that Day for Descendants Art and Altars will help us all keep these challenges and solution in our active thoughts as we make daily decisions large and small. In other words, in-the-moment mindfulness can bridge the gap between intentions and actions.

I’ll be adding resources to this post regularly with newest additions at the top.

The Long Time Project

About: “The Long Time Project has been co-founded by Ella Saltmarshe and Beatrice Pembroke. It is a multidisciplinary inquiry into cultivating cultures of stewardship at scale, involving policymakers, cultural institutions, scientists, humanities, the creative industries, media and business.

How To Be A Good Ancestor, Roman Krznaric

An excellent and fairly comprehensive resource is Roman Krznaric and his recent book The Good Ancestor. Krznaric discusses our pathological short-termism and how we might extend our minds beyond our own lifetimes, which is hard to do effectively. But we need a cultural evolution which will replace our short-term individual culture with a more collective long-term collective culture.

Krznaric’s book nicely catalogues many resources, and he has excellent personal viewpoints on many topics, many of which I share. Whether or not your agree, Krznaric’s compendium is a great place to start or to go deeper into the topic of the future.
